Slovak Officials Attend NATO Summit in Turkey

The NATO summit in Ankara brought together Allied leaders to discuss Euro-Atlantic security, defence spending and continued support for Ukraine among others. During the meeting, President Peter Pellegrini held bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, focusing on defence, energy and economic cooperation, while thanking Turkey for helping secure alternative gas supplies to Slovakia through the TurkStream pipeline. Pellegrini also called for a more pragmatic relationship between the European Union and Turkey, saying both countries share the view that military conflicts should be resolved through diplomacy.

Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD), who also attended the summit, met his Slovenian counterpart Tone Kajzer to discuss regional security, economic cooperation and Slovakia's priorities during its presidency of the Visegrad Group. Economic cooperation and trade were also among the key topics of the meeting, with bilateral trade between the two countries exceeding 1.2 billion euros annually.
