Government Seeks Joint Online Safety Law

The Slovak government plans to prepare a single law restricting children's access to social media after the education and investment ministries agreed to merge their competing proposals. Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD) said the priority is to create legislation that effectively protects children rather than compete over separate bills. The government aims to reach an agreement before the draft goes to cabinet later this summer, while the opposition KDH is also preparing its own proposal. Children's Commissioner Jozef Mikloško welcomed stricter regulation, warning that excessive use of digital technologies poses serious risks to children's mental health.
