Slovakia and India aim to build on the dynamic development of their bilateral relations and continue strengthening their partnership in both political and economic fields. Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár of the Smer-SD party said this on Tuesday (July 7) during a meeting with Indian Ambassador to Slovakia Apoorva Srivastava, held on the occasion of the conclusion of her diplomatic mission in Bratislava.
“Slovakia and India are currently developing relations at the level of a comprehensive partnership, which creates broad opportunities for further deepening cooperation. We are united by a shared interest in supporting multilateralism, respecting international law, as well as efforts to achieve peaceful solutions to conflicts,” Blanár said.
The minister highlighted the ambassador’s personal contribution to strengthening Slovak-Indian relations and praised the progress achieved during her tenure, which began in 2023. He particularly pointed to intensified high-level political dialogue, as well as increased cultural, academic, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Blanár also recalled several significant high-level visits that took place during her time in office, describing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first official visit to Bratislava in June this year as a historic milestone.
During the bilateral meeting, both sides highlighted the rapid growth of economic relations. During Ambassador Srivastava’s tenure, bilateral trade more than doubled, reaching €1.6 billion in 2025. Slovakia and India are also expanding cooperation in areas including investment, nuclear energy, innovation, digital technologies, and the defense industry. Further strengthening of the partnership is expected through a series of signed agreements and memorandums, as well as planned agreements in the fields of defense, audiovisual cooperation, and the protection of classified information.
Blanár also presented the Indian ambassador with a note officially confirming Slovakia’s support for India’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–2029 term. “The Slovak Republic also supports India’s ambition to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and we are interested in further developing cooperation with India in the V4+ format during our presidency of the Visegrad Group,” Blanár added.
