The Association of Towns and Communities of Slovakia says the legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius extends far beyond history, reminding people of the importance of education, mutual respect and cultural identity.
In a message marking the national holiday, ZMOS chairman Jozef Božik said the two missionaries had a lasting influence on Slovakia's spiritual, cultural and educational development.
He stressed that traditions are not merely memories of the past but a solid foundation for building a modern, confident and cultivated society. According to Božik, respect for history and cultural heritage is also an expression of responsibility towards future generations.
The association also expressed appreciation to local governments across Slovakia for preserving traditions, supporting cultural life and strengthening local communities.
Božik said municipalities play an irreplaceable role in protecting the values that shape Slovakia as a modern, democratic and culturally rich country. He added that the holiday should remind people that genuine progress grows from understanding one's roots, respecting others and combining tradition with a vision for the future.
