Slovakia's top constitutional officials were expected to meet to discuss the government's position ahead of the July NATO summit in Ankara on a proposal for military assistance to Ukraine. Prime Minister Robert Fico will conduct the negotiations to make sure the Slovak delegation won't have a mandate to approve Slovakia's participation in what he described as "war loans". Fico reiterated that the government supports dialogue rather than war. "Slovakia will not pay for Ukraine's military expenditure," he said.
The discussion also covered other foreign policy issues. Fico said Slovakia was seeking election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2028-2029 term. "We would be pleased if Slovakia secured a non-permanent seat," he said.
