Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová (an SNS nominee) held talks on Tuesday with representatives of Slovakia's cultural community on the future direction of the country's cultural policy.
The meeting was held at the Culture Ministry on the basis of a resolution adopted at an April session of the House Committee for Culture and Media.
"Today's discussion was highly constructive and confirmed that representatives of the cultural community are interested in actively participating in shaping Slovakia's cultural policy. I appreciate the valuable, open and substantive debate, which allows us to better understand the needs of individual cultural sectors and seek joint solutions for the benefit of the entire sector. We agreed to continue these discussions," Šimkovičová said.
The aim of the meeting was to create space for an open dialogue on the current challenges facing the cultural sector, the priorities of the Culture Ministry and their implementation, as well as the future direction of the state's cultural policy. Discussions focused on the needs of individual cultural fields, opportunities for their development and strengthening cooperation between the ministry and the professional community.
According to the ministry’s press department, the minister also met representatives of professional organisations, cultural institutions, museums, galleries, theatres, professional associations and local authorities, including the Union — Trade Union of Professional Musicians of Slovakia at the Slovak National Theatre Orchestra, the Association of Film and Audio Authors, the TASR news agency, the Association of Slovak Librarians and Libraries, the Association of Slovak Visual Artists, the Central Slovak Museum, the Museum and Gallery Council, the Trenčín Museum and Trenčín Castle, the Union of Authors and Performers of Popular Music, and the Slovak Association of Towns and Villages.
