Slovakia is seeking inspiration from Austria as it prepares its bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2028 and 2029. During Monday talks in Bratislava, Slovak State Secretary Marek Eštok and Austrian Foreign Ministry Secretary General Nikolaus Marschik discussed Austria’s recent successful campaign, which secured election in the first round of voting. Eštok said Austria’s experience could help strengthen Slovakia’s own candidacy.
The two officials also reviewed bilateral relations, including plans for deeper cross-border cooperation, and discussed regional collaboration within the Slavkov Format, whose rotating presidency will pass from Slovakia to Austria on July 1.
