Transport Minister Enters Bratislava Mayoral Race

Slovak Transport Minister Jozef Ráž (SMER-SD nominee) has announced he will run for mayor of Bratislava as an independent candidate in this autumn’s local elections. Ráž says the capital needs practical solutions rather than political disputes. His campaign will focus on improving transport, increasing housing construction and boosting public safety. Among his proposals are a new city bridge over the Danube, the return of a 15-minute public transport ticket, free public transport for seniors over 65, and more municipal police officers.

Ráž says he will finance his campaign from his own funds and plans to visit all 17 city districts before finalising his election programme. Combined municipal and regional elections are due to take place on October 24, although they have not yet been formally called by the Parliamentary Speaker Richard Raši (HLAS-SD).
