Slovakia is still a relatively unknown country for Japanese investors, said Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at the extended summit in Poland on Sunday. In order to improve the cooperation between the two countries, Fico and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe discussed the possibility of setting up a Slovak-Japanese council which should support mutual investment and scientific co-operation.
“The Japanese and Slovak sides are interested not only in exchanges of information, but also in providing services to other countries when it comes to nuclear safety experts," said Fico. The premiers also debated Japan's interest in becoming a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council which, according to Czech premier Petr Nečas, could contribute towards growth in the EU economy by 0.8 percent annually. If the reform goes through, Slovakia will support it. After the summit Abe noted that Japan has been co-operating with V4 countries for ten years, with Japanese companies creating a total of 120,000 jobs in the region.
