President Peter Pellegrini on 15 June ratified an agreement on police cooperation between Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
It is an international treaty under the Slovak Constitution and will take precedence over domestic laws.
"The agreement between the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic on police cooperation regulates cooperation in preventing and detecting criminal offences, identifying their perpetrators, protecting public order and safety, and preventing and detecting offences within the jurisdiction of police authorities, financial administration authorities in Slovakia, and customs administration authorities in the Czech Republic," stated the Interior Ministry.
According to the ministry, the purpose of the agreement is to modernise existing institutions of police cooperation in the context of combating serious crime and the identified risk of a migration wave, while also reflecting the needs of police practices within international cooperation.
