On Wednesday, President Pellegrini appointed five new Slovak ambassadors, among them the current MPs Peter Kmec (Hlas-SD) and Miroslav Radačovský (independent). Kmec will represent Slovakia in Italy, Malta and San Marino with headquarters in Rome, and Radačovský in Cyprus with headquarters in Nicosia.
The opposition is critical about the appointment of Kmec and Radačovský. According to SaS, this is further evidence of political bargaining in the government coalition, which damages the credibility of Slovakia at home and abroad. Representatives of the Movement Slovakia and MP Veronika Remišová (Slovensko – Za ľudí) claim that this is another example of political bargaining and rewarding people associated with serious cases.
According to Juraj Krúpa (SaS), Slovak diplomacy is turning into a dumping ground for political nominees, the result of which is the loss of professionalism, respect and Slovakia's return to international isolation.
MP Gréta Gregorová (PS) thinks that the government is sending a message to young people with these nominations that it is not the study or knowledge of foreign languages that determines career progression, but politics.
Peter Kmec is a former Deputy Prime Minister for the Recovery Plan. He resigned in November 2025 due to disputed results in research and development funding schemes managed by Kmec’s office, prompting several opposition parties to file criminal complaints.
Miroslav Radačovský is a controversial former judge with pro-Russian views. He became an MEP for nationalist ĽSNS party who became known for having released a live dove during a speech in Strasbourg.
