President Peter Pellegrini appointed five new Slovak ambassadors on Wednesday, including current members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, Peter Kmec (Hlas-SD) and Miroslav Radačovský (independent).
Kmec will represent Slovakia in Italy, Malta, and San Marino, with his seat in Rome, while Radačovský will serve in Cyprus, based in Nicosia.
Ľubomír Rehák will represent Slovakia in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, based in Astana; Jozef Hudec will serve in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sudan, Oman, Libya, and Chad, based in Cairo; and Rastislav Križan will represent Slovakia in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Djibouti, based in Addis Ababa.
In his address to the newly appointed ambassadors, President Pellegrini reminded them that by accepting these positions they had taken on enormous responsibility.
“It is a responsibility for representing our homeland and for promoting our national interests,” the head of state emphasized.
He stressed that their work would not be judged by what others write about them or by comments and social media posts, but solely on the basis of official evaluations of their performance conducted by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Government of the Slovak Republic. According to Pellegrini, these institutions alone have the authority to determine whether their work meets the expectations and requirements placed upon them.
