Tatravagónka, Europe's largest producer of freight rail wagons, has invested 13 million euros in a new robotic painting line that is expected to be the largest of its kind in the European Union. The company says the technology will increase production capacity and reduce material consumption among others.
During a visit to the plant, Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said automation can help address labour shortages in Slovak industry. Tatravagónka, which manufactures around 4,000 wagons and 10,000 bogies annually, also confirmed talks with the Defence Ministry on supplying additional military transport wagons and is exploring expansion opportunities beyond Europe.
