Slovak officials have rejected comments by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who said Hungary is “the only country in the world that borders itself.” Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) called the statement absurd and said it ignores historical facts, stressing that Slovakia’s borders are internationally recognised and must not be questioned. Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) also criticised the remarks, saying that Hungary’s northern neighbour is the sovereign Slovak Republic and warning that such rhetoric only increases tensions.
