Slovakia Not Considering Hosting Nuclear Arms

Slovakia is not considering the deployment of nuclear weapons on its territory. Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) made the statement following media reports that the United States is exploring the possibility of placing nuclear weapons in additional European NATO member states.

According to reports, Poland and some Baltic countries have expressed interest in hosting such weapons. Kaliňák said he understands Poland’s position, describing the country as one of NATO’s key pillars of defence.

However, he stressed that Slovakia does not support the deployment of nuclear weapons. While acknowledging the role of nuclear deterrence, he warned that placing nuclear arsenals closer to Russia could contribute to further escalation of tensions.
