Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) has praised the Slovak community in Iceland for helping preserve Slovak culture, language and traditions abroad.
During a visit to Iceland, Blanár met members of the Slovak diaspora as well as Bishop Dávid Tencer, who has been serving in the country for more than twenty years.
The Minister highlighted the importance of Saint Torlak’s Church in Reydarfjördur. The wooden church was built in central Slovakia and transported to Iceland in 2017, becoming a visible symbol of relations between the two countries.
Around six hundred Slovaks currently live in Iceland, with the number increasing during the summer season. Blanár said the local Slovak community remains active and plays an important role in promoting Slovakia abroad.
