The State Scientific Library in Banská Bystrica is not only a scientific and cultural institution, but also a place for education and for learning about one’s own history, traditions, and identity. The importance of libraries continues to grow even in the era of digitalization and technological change because they preserve knowledge, historical memory, and cultural heritage for future generations. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated this on Tuesday during a ceremonial concert marking the 100th anniversary of the library.
According to the President, the library has remained not only a scientific and cultural institution, but also a place of education and understanding of national history, traditions, and identity. “It is a kind of symbolic, old-fashioned, solid hard drive where the memory of our nation is stored. It preserves the memory of important personalities and figures who helped Slovakia on its path to independence and development,” Pellegrini said.
