BRaK Literary Festival Opens in Bratislava

The Bratislava Book Festival BRaK began on Wednesday in the Slovak capital and will run until May 31. It will feature more than 120 events and 200 guests from around the world. Admission to all accompanying events is free, festival organizers announced.

The 13th edition of the BRaK festival will primarily take place at Bratislava’s Main and Franciscan Squares Hlavné námestie and Františkánske námestie) , as well as in the premises of city cultural institutions in the historic centre of Bratislava, including the Town Hall Courtyard, Mirbach Palace, Biela 6, Rómer House, and the Summer Reading Room “U červeného raka.”

This year’s festival theme, “We Need to Talk…,” will open discussions about literature, society, and the contemporary world throughout a program aimed at both the public and the professional community. The festival will feature author readings, discussions, performances, concerts, exhibitions, and special thematic zones, including a publishing exhibition and sales fair, a children’s zone, a comics program, and a conference for the book sector, libraries, and the general public.

Festival guests include Czech novelist Jakub Stanjura, French author Constance Debré, Brazilian writer Jeferson Tenório, Icelandic author María Elísabet Bragadóttir, poet Michal Habaj, and visual artist Andrej Dúbravský. The festival will also welcome many other names from the Slovak and international literary and artistic scene.
