Slovak parliament returned on Tuesday for its final session before the summer recess, with lawmakers set to debate nearly 190 agenda items, including several proposed constitutional changes. The opening comes amid tensions between the coalition SNS party and Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba (SNS nominee). Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) has given coalition partners until September to resolve the conflict or face possible dismissal of the minister. Despite the tensions, SNS leader Andrej Danko says he does not expect any dramatic votes.
MPs are also set to debate ending postal voting from abroad, economic support measures, and new rules allowing referendums on shortening the parliamentary term. A new parliamentary code of conduct also comes into force on Tuesday.
