The Defence Ministry has signed a contract worth 25 million euros for the maintenance of F-16 fighter jets. This information is based on a document published in the Central Register of Contracts. The contract is valid until the end of 2030. The Ministry signed the contract with the American company Lockheed Martin, which manufactures these fighter jets. At the end of 2018, Slovakia signed a contract for 14 American-made F-16 C/D Block 70 fighter jets. Delivery of the aircraft was delayed due to the pandemic. The first aircraft arrived at the military airfield in Kuchyňa near Malacky in the summer of 2024.
