President Pellegrini and Schulz Discuss EU Reform and Ukraine

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini met at the Presidential Palace with former European Parliament President Martin Schulz, now Director of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation. Their talks focused on the future functioning of the European Union, cooperation between Slovakia and Germany, and the war in Ukraine.

Pellegrini stressed that Slovakia wants open and honest dialogue with its European partners while remaining a stable and responsible member of both the EU and NATO. He said future EU reforms must strengthen unity and preserve fair conditions for smaller member states.

The President also described Germany as one of Slovakia’s key economic and political partners and reaffirmed Slovakia’s interest in remaining a predictable environment for foreign investment.

Both sides also discussed the war in Ukraine, which they described as Europe’s most serious security issue. Pellegrini said Slovakia continues to prioritize humanitarian aid, reconstruction efforts, and energy security support for Ukraine.
