German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is not planning an official visit to Slovakia, according to a spokesperson for the German government. The statement comes amid speculation about a cancelled trip to Bratislava, which Berlin says had never been officially scheduled. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) had previously announced that the visit would take place by the end of May, later specifying May 29. However, opposition member Ivan Korčok (PS) claimed the visit would not happen, linking it to Fico’s recent trip to Moscow. Merz criticized Fico’s participation in Russia’s Victory Day celebrations and said the issue would be discussed in the future.
