White House Nominates Douglas Mastriano as US Ambassador to Slovakia
The White House has nominated Pennsylvania state senator and retired army colonel Douglas Mastriano to become the next US ambassador to Slovakia. The nomination was submitted to the US Senate on Monday by President Donald Trump.

According to the Associated Press, Mastriano is considered a supporter of President Trump. If confirmed by the Senate, he said he looks forward to strengthening ties between the United States and Slovakia. A former military officer, Mastriano served more than 30 years in the US Army, including deployments in Germany, Afghanistan and during Operation Desert Storm. He has represented Pennsylvania in the state senate since 2019 and unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2022.
