Slovak Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) arrived at the Kremlin on Saturday morning for the Victory Day celebrations. However, he didn't attend a military parade on Moscow's Red Square. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the Slovak premier could pass on messages from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the Russian head of state.
Shortly after arriving in Moscow, Prime Minister laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden. He also wanted to pay his respects to the Red Army soldiers who fell during the liberation of Slovakia.
Fico cited as the main reason for his visit "the fact that it was the peoples of the former Soviet Union, and particularly today's Russian Federation, who paid the highest price in the fight against fascism and in World War II".
