Finance Ministers Meet in Brussels, Discusses Middle East

The economic impact of the Middle East crisis was the main issue on the agenda of a two-day meeting of finance ministers of the Eurozone and the European Union (EU) in Brussels, with Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenicky (Smer-SD) representing Slovakia at the Eurogroup and the ECOFIN meetings.

"The key point of the Eurogroup meeting involved the economic impact of the Middle East crisis, with current developments not pointing to a quick resolution. EU finance ministers therefore discussed policy measures to mitigate the consequences of global events. The current situation is negatively affecting not only individual national economies but also the EU as a whole," said the Finance Ministry.

"The situation remains complex and characterised by a high degree of uncertainty. The crisis can be felt mainly through high energy prices, inflationary pressure and lower economic growth. At the same time, foreign demand is declining, thereby further worsening the economic situation in Slovakia as an export-oriented country," added the Ministry.
