Slovak firefighters were deployed to help tackle a large forest fire in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park in the Czech Republic on Monday. The Fire and Rescue Service says the blaze, fuelled by prolonged drought, has spread into hard-to-reach terrain, making firefighting efforts more difficult.
The Czech Republic requested international assistance through the European CECIS system, with a specialised Slovak firefighting team joining efforts on the ground and from the air. To support the aerial operations Slovakia has also sent two Black Hawk military helicopters to the region.
