Construction of Hospital in Prešov Suspended Due to Serious Defects, Completion will be Delayed Several Months

Construction of the military hospital in Prešov, eastern Slovakia, has been suspended due to serious structural defects. Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák (SMER-SD) says the extent of the damage is still unknown, but the delay could reach several months.

An expert report is expected early next week and will determine whether damaged columns can be reinforced or must be demolished. The issue emerged during work on the upper floors, while the foundation remains intact.

Opposition MP Viliam Karas (KDH) is calling for accountability, criticizing the contractor selection process and warning of possible legal disputes and further delays.

Kaliňák says a final decision on how to proceed could come within two weeks. The project, originally scheduled for completion in 2027, is now expected to face a delay of four to five months.
