Economy Minister Signs Agreement On Feasibility Study For Westinghouse Reactor

The American company Westinghouse will conduct an analysis in Slovakia for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice. A Declaration of intent to begin the preliminary engineering and design study was signed in Dubrovnik, Croatia, by Slovak Minister of Economy Denisa Saková (Hlas-SD), U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Allison Hooker, and Westinghouse Vice President Margaret Cosentino. It will be funded by a grant from the U.S. government. Saková said the analysis aims to determine whether the Westinghouse reactor technology can be integrated in the Jaslovské Bohunice plant. “The results will also include the economic parameters of the solution,” explained Saková, who is part of Slovak President Peter Pellegrini’s delegation to the Three Seas Initiative summit. According to the minister, the study will take six to seven months and cost the U.S. government $5 million.
