Slovakia Eyes Stronger Trade Ties with Indo-Pacific Region

Slovakia is looking to boost trade and investment with the Indo-Pacific, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (SMER-SD) said during talks with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) partners in Brunei. He highlighted the country’s ambition to become a reliable partner in one of the world’s fastest-growing regions, home to more than 680 million people and rising economic potential.

Blanár held a series of bilateral meetings, including a first-ever ministerial exchange with East Timor, as well as talks with counterparts from Singapore, the Philippines and Laos. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in innovation, technology and energy, alongside strengthening political dialogue. He also underlined Slovakia’s interest in joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and securing support for a UN Security Council bid, as the country seeks a stronger regional presence.

Foreign Minister added that the centre of global economic growth is shifting toward Southeast Asia, and said Slovakia aims to play an active role both nationally and as an EU member, with ASEAN partners viewing it as a gateway to the European Union.
