Independent MP Ján Ferenčák says he was attacked from behind on Saturday in Kežmarok, where he was struck on the head in front of his daughter. The case is now under criminal investigation, and Ferenčák said he had previously been warned to “be careful of further accidents.”
Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok ruled out a political motive but pledged a full investigation, stating: “As a politician, I condemn any violence against representatives of the opposition or the coalition.” Meanwhile, Milan Majerský, leader of KDH, called for a thorough probe, adding that a political motive cannot yet be excluded.
The incident follows a similar January attack on journalist Peter Schutz in Košice. At the time, Šutaj Eštok also condemned the violence, but said that “not even an alleged attack on a commentator can diminish his responsibility for words that helped inflame emotions and divide the public.”
