Slovakia’s under-18 ice hockey team has pulled off a major upset at the World Championship in Trenčín, defeating favourites Canada men's national under-18 ice hockey team 2–1.
It’s the first time Slovakia has ever beaten Canada at this level, ending a 14-game losing streak.
Samuel Šramatý opened the scoring, Canada equalised through Mathis Preston, and Timothy Kazda sealed the win with a penalty shot in the third period.
Goalkeeper Denis Čelko delivered a standout performance, helping secure a historic victory on home ice.
Slovakia faces Norway men's national under-18 ice hockey team in their next game later today.
