As of 1 May, parents in Slovakia can, for the first time, submit applications electronically to kindergartens. The traditional paper-based system remains available, so they may continue to use printed forms if they prefer. According to the Ministry of Education, the e-application system saves time not only for parents but also for schools. It also provides a clearer overview of enrolment and helps prevent unwanted duplication. During the rollout of similar systems for secondary and primary schools, several technical issues were encountered, including missing attachments and the incorrect assignment of foreign nationalities. According to Ondrej Škvarenina, an analyst at the Ministry of Education’s Institute of Educational Policy, the kindergarten application system will be considerably simpler than the one used for secondary schools. Nevertheless, parents will still have the option to submit applications in writing.
