Government Meeting: Health Sector Faces Acute Nurse Shortage

Slovakia faces a long-term shortage of healthcare workers, according to the Health Ministry.

A new strategy estimates that around 77,000 additional staff will be needed by 2040 to reach EU standards. 33,000 new nurses will be needed within the next four years. The Health Ministry has presented measures.

The plan includes measures to improve education, stabilise the workforce and retain professionals in the system.

The ministry says success will depend on sufficient funding and broader reforms.
