Pope Leo the Fourteenth has honoured Slovak citizen Anna Vargová for helping priests during the communist persecution in former Czechoslovakia.
As a nine-year-old, Vargová carried secret messages between priests and nuns, while her parents hid members of religious orders in their home in Nitra.
She received the papal medal with humility and said she had not expected the recognition. The award was presented by the Bishop of Nitra.
