Slovak Radio in Bratislava has become a hub for European folklore broadcasting, as the Svetozár Stračina Grand Prix Competition gets underway. The international contest features 31 radio recordings from 14 countries, competing in authentic folklore, stylised folklore and world music.
Organised under the umbrella of the European Broadcasting Union, the event brings together experts and creators to share artistic and technical experience. Winners will be selected by an international jury led by ethnomusicologist Bernard Garaj. The competition will culminate in a gala concert on April 16, broadcast live, featuring new compositions inspired by folklore alongside works by Svetozár Stračina.
