Eleven STU scientists are among the most influential in the world, Stanford ranking shows

A total of eleven scientists working at the Slovak University of Technology (STU) were ranked among the most influential in the world in terms of lifetime scientific contribution in the Stanford ranking.

STU thus ranked third among Slovak scientific institutions, behind the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Comenius University.

The ranking is based on a composite indicator that comprehensively evaluates the citation rate of scientific publications in the Scopus database. It takes into account not only the total number of citations, but also the quality of publishing activity, the level of co-authorship, the importance of individual publications, and the position of the scientist in the author's collective.

The rating is cleaned of self-citations and normalized according to individual scientific disciplines. "Either scientists from the top hundred thousand in the world or those who belong to the top two percent in their field are selected," the spokesperson added. The ranking consists of two parts - it evaluates lifetime scientific impact and also the impact for a specific calendar year. Professor John P. A. Ioannidis from Stanford University compile it annually.
