Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) will in the coming weeks commemorate victims of fascism and those who fought against it during World War Two. His programme begins in Bratislava at the Slavín memorial this Wednesday, followed later by a visit to the former Dachau Concentration Camp, and will culminate on Victory Day, 9th May, in Moscow. In June, he also plans to mark the anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy.
Fico says these events are an opportunity to promote peace during what he calls a difficult global security period. He also warned of major international challenges ahead, linking rising energy prices to ongoing conflicts and criticising EU policies.
