Cultural organizations in Slovakia are calling on the Slovak Arts Council to immediately send contract amendments to all grant recipients who have met the required conditions. They warn that further delays are unacceptable, especially as many projects have already passed audits and incurred financial commitments.
The groups say the contracts remain valid and should be fulfilled, including funding for 2026. They are demanding that amendments be signed by the end of March, warning that continued delays could cause serious damage to the cultural sector.
They also rejected suggestions of preferential treatment, insisting all applicants went through the same evaluation process.
The Slovak Arts Council board and Culture Ministry said the contracts have only been temporarily suspended pending review. If no issues are found, amendments will be signed, although officials maintain that the current system of multi-year contracts may be unlawful.
