Speaker of Parliament Richard Raši (Hlas-SD), attended the parliamentary summit of the Three Seas Initiative in Zagreb, Croatia, on Wednesday. Raši considers Slovakia’s membership in the group extremely important, even though the country is landlocked, because it needs strong transport links and stable energy routes. He shared the information on social media.
“We have just been meeting at the Three Seas summit, where there are 13 European Union countries from the Baltic states and Poland in the north down to Greece in the south. We talked about economic cooperation. All the countries are EU members and it is easy for us to trade with each other,” the Speaker said. The discussions focused on north–south transport corridors, the construction of railway and transport routes, and energy security.
According to Raši, the global economy is changing and traditional east–west routes are being disrupted by global problems, wars, and sanctions. He warned that a new economic, business, and security axis is emerging from northern Central and Eastern Europe to the south. “That is why it is important for Slovakia to be part of what is changing in Europe today,” he stated.
The Three Seas Initiative was launched in 2015 and connects 13 EU member states in the region between the Adriatic, Baltic, and Black Seas, along with strategic partners including the European Commission, the United States, Germany, Turkey, Spain, and Japan. Its goal is to strengthen connectivity, especially in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure.
Raši’s visit to Croatia continued for a second day on Wednesday. On Tuesday (March 24), he met in Zagreb with Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković.
