Speaker of Parliament meets Croatian Counterpart

Slovak Speaker of Parliament, Richard Raši (Hlas-SD) held talks on Tuesday in Zagreb with the speaker of the Croatian Sabor (parliament) Gordan Jandrokovič. They talked about cooperation and support for Slovaks living in Croatia. However, the key topic was energy and the supply of oil to Slovakia through the Adria oil pipeline.

"It is important that we find a functional solution as soon as possible. In times of geopolitical tension, the stability of energy supplies is crucial for Slovakia and our entire region," said the speaker of the NR SR. In his own words, he reminded Jandrokovič that he, as the speaker of the parliament, could help to resolve the agreement on oil supplies to Slovakia as soon as possible.

The Croatian Adria pipeline is a key alternative route for Slovakia after the shutdown of Russian oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline. However, the Croatian side refuses to supply Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia via the Adria. Slovakia has an exemption from sanctions for its import by sea.

The bilateral meeting between Raši and Jandroković took place in Zagreb on the sidelines of the second parliamentary summit of the Three Seas Initiative, attended by 11 Parliamentary Speakers from countries such as Romania, Turkey and Albania.

The Three Seas Initiative, which was launched in 2015 as a Croatian-Polish project, connects 13 EU member states in the area between the Adriatic, Baltic and Black Seas, as well as strategic partners, including the European Commission, the United States, Germany, Turkey, Spain and Japan. Its aim is to strengthen connectivity, particularly in the areas of transport, energy and digital infrastructure.
