A free digital tool called 'Kam dalej' ('Where Next') is being launched in Slovakia by Mastercard in cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and jobs website Profesia.sk to help people find a specific path to better employment and professional development.
The tool is available free of charge at www.kamdalej.sk and is aimed at matching people's skills and experiences with the needs of Slovakia's labour market, telling them what qualifications they can improve and what new job opportunities could subsequently open up for them across all eight regions of Slovakia.
This comes in response to a situation in which many people have jobs that don't match their qualifications or experience. This is particularly true in the case of skilled workers from non-EU countries who face various barriers on the labour market. According to a recent analysis by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the IOM, this applies to 48 percent of them, with Slovakia losing significant untapped potential in terms of human and financial capital.
"There are many many people with talent and experience who live and work in Slovakia, but their skills are not utilised today," said Jana Lvova, Mastercard's general manager for Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The project shows that by correctly linking data, technology and strong partnerships, "we can help people to find new opportunities together and strengthen the entire labour market in Slovakia, while at the same time contributing to positive economic development," she added.
Under the project, Mastercard provides data on the cost of living and consumer behaviour, as well as technological know-how to offer a broader economic context for career decisions. IOM contributes its knowledge of working with migrants, their education and integration into the labour market, while Profesia.sk can offer unique data on the labour market and the current demand for jobs.
