EU leaders failed to make progress on a €90 billion loan for Ukraine and the restoration of oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said after Thursday’s summit in Brussels. According to him, the loan remains blocked and no timeline has been set for resuming oil deliveries to Slovakia and Hungary.
Fico informed EU partners about Slovakia’s state of oil emergency and stressed that both Slovakia and Hungary are entitled to import Russian oil until 2027. He also criticized the lack of action regarding an inspection and repair of the pipeline. The PM confirmed he did not support the summit’s conclusions on Ukraine, as they did not include references to the Druzhba pipeline. He added that Slovakia is prepared to take further measures if its economic interests continue to be affected.
