Slovakia Supports Faster EU Integration of Western Balkans

Slovakia considers the integration of Western Balkan countries into the European Union a strategic priority, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) said at a conference on the region’s future. Blanár called for renewed momentum in the accession process, noting that enlargement has been ongoing for more than 20 years but has progressed slower than expected. He highlighted progress made by countries such as Montenegro and Albania, adding that reform efforts must be rewarded with a clear membership perspective.

Slovakia supports an individual, merit-based approach to enlargement rather than group accession, and plans to further promote cooperation through upcoming meetings with partners focused on the Western Balkans.
