Slovakia’s President Peter Pellegrini has criticised the quality of lawmaking, calling the legislative process “poor” and urging a return to standard procedures. Speaking after talks with Parliament Speaker Richard Raši (HLAS-SD), he warned against the overuse of fast-track legislation and unrelated amendments, known as “add-ons,” saying they undermine transparency. Pellegrini pledged to more strictly review such laws and return them to parliament if needed.
He also raised concerns about declining debate standards in parliament and called on the ruling coalition to respect the opposition’s right to scrutiny, including no-confidence motions. Raši agreed that current practices damage trust and said both parliament and government should limit fast-track procedures to necessary cases only.
