A new criminal offence will be added to the Criminal Code - under the new provisions, damaging war graves, military graves, and Holocaust memorials will also constitute a criminal offence, according to an amendment to the Criminal Code that MPs approved on Tuesday.
Coalition lawmakers who tabled the amendment argued that damage to military and war memorials should be viewed differently, given their significance, and differentiated from damage to other 'ordinary' objects.
The amendment is set to take effect on 1 April.
