PM Plans Moscow and Normandy Visits to Mark WWII Anniversaries

Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) says he will travel to Moscow on May 9 to attend celebrations marking the end of World War II in Europe, and will later visit Normandy in June to honour Allied soldiers of the 1944 landings. He said both events are important historical milestones that deserve recognition. Fico was the only EU leader to attend last year’s Moscow commemorations, where he briefly met Russian President Vladimir Putin and also held talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. His visit drew criticism from several European leaders, as it came amid Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
