Employers and Audit Office Call for Major State Reforms

Representatives of the Slovak Employers’ Federation (RÚZ) met with the head of Slovakia’s Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ), Ľubomír Andrassy, and agreed that the country faces serious systemic problems requiring major reforms. The discussion focused on the declining quality of the legislative process and the frequent use of fast-track procedures, which employers say undermine proper public consultation.

Both sides also warned about the weakening of social dialogue, noting that key documents such as the state budget are often presented with extremely short deadlines that prevent meaningful discussion. They stressed that public spending has risen sharply in the past decade—from about €35 billion to more than €60 billion annually—without a corresponding improvement in the efficiency of public services.

Slovak Employers’ Federation and the Audit Office agreed that Slovakia’s situation can only be improved through stronger economic growth and comprehensive reforms of the state, as well as better transparency in public finances and higher-quality legislation.
