Slovakia’s Eximbanka has insured a €20 million loan for a Slovak investment in Brazil’s biofuel sector. The financing supports the acquisition of a 50-percent stake in the Brazilian company Agropéu Agro Industrial de Pompéu by Envien Bioenergia Brasil, a subsidiary of the Slovak Envien Group.
The total value of the investment reached about 60 million US dollars, originally financed from the investor’s own resources before being partly refinanced through a bank loan provided by Slovenská sporiteľňa. Eximbanka insured the loan against political and commercial risks.
The Brazilian company has operated since 1981 and produces biofuels, sugar from sugarcane and electricity. The investment marks an important step for the Slovak Envien Group as it expands its activities from Europe and Asia to South America.
