The opposition SaS party is a stable element, it is an integral part of the political alternative, and our partners can count on us as a partner in the future governing coalition, party leader Branislav Gröhling stated in his address at the SaS congress on Saturday, adding that the party is ready to be a responsible and trustworthy partner.
"Over the past year, we've gone through a very important phase. We've made decisions that weren't easy at all. I've made decisions that weren't easy at all, but I'm convinced that these decisions have made SaS a stable element in the Slovak political sphere and strengthened our credibility, and ensured that SaS is now a solid part of the political alternative. Our partners can count on us as a partner in the future governing coalition, where we'll replace these people who are here now,” he noted.
Gröhling also criticised the current condition of the country. "The state shouldn't be the way it has been created now, during this governing coalition," he said, noting that instead of supporting work and conduct of business, it only increases taxes, levies, and adds new obligations. He also spoke about Slovakia's slow growth and deteriorating public finances.
Also at the congress, delegates rejected a proposal to include former party leader Richard Sulik on the SaS slate for the next parliamentary election.
Gröhling sees this as support for his decision and a clear signal that the party wants to focus on the future. "The overwhelming majority of delegates supported my decision. This chapter is closed, and SaS continues to write a new story. Twenty years ago, Slovakia was the Tatra tiger, and SaS wants to be the party that will help Slovakia return to this success in the future government," he added.
