Slovakia condemns violations of international law in the Middle East and supports the immediate de-escalation of the conflict, the protection of civilians, and a return to interrupted diplomacy, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) stated on Thursday following a video-conference between foreign ministers and state secretaries of the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
High on the agenda of discussion were the deepening crisis in the Middle East and its consequences for global security, energy markets and economic stability, said the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement. "The stability of the region is crucial not only for the Middle East, but also for the security and economic prosperity of Europe," emphasized Blanár in his speech, expressing solidarity with the Gulf countries and with Cyprus, Turkey and Azerbaijan, which, according to him, are being equally affected by Iran's current attacks.
The Slovak Minister pointed out that Slovakia was among the first EU countries to offer repatriation flights for its citizens and citizens of other countries. He also thanked the countries in the region for their cooperation in organizing repatriation flights and promptly granting overflight permits.
